Congress just quietly passed a law that could spark a boom for the $1 billion marijuana-linked CBD industry

The move alters the language of a major drug law that had previously remained unchanged for half a century and loosely defined hemp alongside marijuana as a controlled substance. The new bill exempts hemp from that law and defines it as an agricultural product. That means farmers and researchers of hemp now get some of the same benefits as farmers and researchers of other crops, like the ability to apply for insurance and federal grants.

Village Farms International Announces Amendment to Pure Sunfarms’ Cultivation License, Expanding Cannabis Production Area to 550,000 Square Feet in One of the Single Largest Cannabis Growing Facilities in the World

Village Farms International, Inc. ("Village Farms" or the "Company") (TSX:VFF) (OTC: VFFIF) and Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. (TSXV:EMH; OTCQX:EMHTF) ("Emerald") today announced that their 50/50 joint venture for large-scale, low-cost, high-quality cannabis production, Pure Sunfarms, received from Health Canada its fourth amendment to the cultivation license for its Delta 3 greenhouse in Delta, BC. This amendment permits Pure Sunfarms to expand its cannabis production area to 550,000 square feet – half of the 1.1 million square foot Delta 3 production facility. The newly licensed area is expected to be in full production by mid-October of this year.
